Title: Identification of Common Modifiable Stroke Risk Factors
Description:
This online educational activity provides a comprehensive overview of the global burden of stroke, highlighting the latest CDC statistics and data from the Global Burden of Disease, Injuries, and Risk Factors Study (published 2024). It illustrates how the worldwide burden of stroke has increased substantially between 1990 and 2021, now accounting for 10.7% of all deaths globally.
The session explores the most common modifiable risk factors for ischemic stroke—including high blood pressure, hyperlipidemia, diabetes, heart disease, alcohol consumption, cigarette smoking, obesity, and physical inactivity—alongside key non-modifiable risk factors such as age, gender, genetic predisposition, vasculitis, and metabolic diseases.
